Commerce meets Creativity

In this term’s Year 9 Commerce task, students took centre stage in more ways than one, combining their passion for performing arts with real‑world business skills. Focusing on the Junior Acting Stream production of Bustown, a vibrant exploration of small‑town life and the pull of the city, students investigated how performances are promoted as services and what makes audiences want to attend.

Working in groups, students first unpacked the play’s themes, style and audience appeal before researching how professional productions market themselves. They then identified a target market and justified how best to reach them through platforms such as social media and visual advertising.

The highlight of the task was designing original promotional campaigns. From eye‑catching posters to creative digital content and pitch presentations, students applied selling techniques like emotional appeal, branding and urgency to bring Bustown to life for an audience.

This task showcases how learning at our school is both creative and practical. Equipping students with valuable skills in communication, collaboration and marketing, while celebrating the arts.
