A visit to The Museum of Human Disease

On Friday 8 May, our Year 12 Biology class undertook an enriching excursion to the Museum of Human Disease at the University of New South Wales. Located on the UNSW campus, this unique museum offers an insightful exploration into human pathology and disease.

Upon arrival, students were immersed in a diverse collection of exhibits featuring real human specimens. Carefully preserved using a range of techniques, these specimens provided a powerful, tangible connection to the diseases studied in class. From cardiovascular conditions to infectious diseases, the displays covered a wide spectrum of medical topics, supported by clear explanations and informative visual materials.

A particular highlight of the visit was the museum’s interactive displays. These hands-on experiences enabled students to engage more deeply with the content, enhancing both understanding and retention. Through these exhibits, students explored the effects of smoking on lung tissue, examined the progression of cancer, and gained insight into how lifestyle choices influence overall health. The interactive elements made the learning experience both engaging and memorable.
