Alum | Oliver Critchley
Oliver Critchley (Class of 2015) is one half of the Sydney-based electronic duo Hellcat Speedracer, known for their high-energy fusion of techno, rave, and rock influences. As an alumnus of your program, he’s built a reputation for pushing creative boundaries in Australia’s electronic music scene.
Oliver Critchley co-founded Hellcat Speedracer with Alex Gray, forming a partnership that channels the spirit of 1990s and early‑2000s dance culture through modern production. Their music blends analogue synths, raw drum patterns, and melodic chants, creating a sound that’s both nostalgic and futuristic. The duo’s releases under Universal Music Australia include standout tracks like Daybreak (featuring DZ Deathrays), Tomorrow 1988, Collide, and Lovestruck featuring Millie Ford. Critchley’s songwriting and production credits span multiple singles and EPs, including Melomaniac 001 and No Chaos, No Future, where his name appears as a composer and lyricist across nearly every track.
Their work has taken the duo to major stages, including performances at Splendour in the Grass and Rhythm & Vines, where their high‑energy sets earned widespread attention. Hellcat Speedracer also captured national buzz during a memorable live moment on triple j, stepping in with an impromptu DJ set after the station’s unexpected “Blue Screen of Death.”
