Junior School: Growing Together

Term 1 2026 was filled with meaningful learning experiences, strong community connections, and many moments that highlight the curiosity and capability of our students.

On Monday, 30 March, our Kindergarten students proudly hosted the Junior School assembly. Their confidence in sharing their work, speaking to an audience, and showcasing their performance skills offered a wonderful example of student voice and early leadership. It is remarkable to see how much these children have developed and grown in such a short time.

Watching our youngest students sway and move with excitement as the College Song played was a delightful reminder of their sense of belonging within our community.

Throughout the term, students engaged deeply with The Resilience Project, focusing on the core principles of gratitude, empathy, and mindfulness. These evidence‑informed wellbeing practices continue to support students in developing emotional awareness, positivity, and calm focus—elements strongly linked to effective learning.

Grandparents Day was a highlight, with many students welcoming their grandparents and sharing their learning with pride. A moment many of us will remember was the end of the Musical Theatre item, when students invited audience members—and many grandparents—onto the stage to join them in movement and song.

Our Year 6 students have also been active leaders in the Buddy Program, supporting Kindergarten and Year 2 students in building friendships and developing confidence.

The term included enriching incursions, such as visits from Healthy Harold and the Life Education Van, which provided valuable learning about health, wellbeing, and decision‑making. We also welcomed parents into classrooms for opportunities to learn more about their children’s learning programs and experiences.

Across the Junior School, learning has been vibrant and engaging. Just one snapshot shows:
– Year 1 and 2 students explored science through observations of stick insects and plant growth.
– Year 3 and 4 students investigated the history of Aztec civilisation.
– Year 3 and Year 5 approached their NAPLAN assessments with maturity and focus.
– Year 6 students explored the concept of perspectives, learning how people can see events and ideas differently, and how listening and respect support thoughtful understanding.

Our students also shone in the performing arts through the Junior School vocal and instrumental competitions and through their contributions to the Prefects’ Charity Concert. Students from Years 3 to 6 have just recorded a beautiful song that we hope can be shared and used in local ANZAC Day services as well as our own College event.

These opportunities reflect the breadth of talent and passion across the Junior School.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge and thank the entire Junior School team for their professionalism, skills, and commitment. Our students thrive because of the dedicated efforts of our academic teaching staff, specialist teachers, performing arts teachers, tutors, support staff, and our outstanding Diverse Learning team. Their collective work ensures that every child is supported, challenged, and celebrated.
