Dance studios buzzing with creativity and collaboration
Term 1 has been a dynamic and inspiring start to the year for our Dance Stream students. The studio has been filled with creativity, collaboration, and a strong commitment to growth as dancers have embraced new challenges and opportunities.
Early in the term, we began developing routines for our upcoming Dance Showcase on May 18th, which will replace our previous choreographic evenings and evolve into a more complete performance experience. Titled Exhibit: Movement, the show will take audiences on a journey through the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, connected by a unique concept developed collaboratively with the students. Dancers were also invited to choreograph their own solo and duo pieces and audition them for inclusion in the showcase.
After several intensive weeks of classes designed to challenge and assess our students, we began working on the group routines for the performance. These include jazz and hip hop pieces for each group, as well as contemporary works featuring both Dance and Ballet students, created in collaboration with our new contemporary teacher, Clayton Church, who has brought wonderful creativity and insight to our Monday classes.
Our Thursday guest teacher program has also been a highlight this term, with students working with Jed Parsonage, Aeysha Rorke, Keanu Gonzales, Dylan Bull, Molly Bugeja, and Holly Sheils. Each guest brought a unique style and perspective, exposing students to a variety of styles while encouraging them to adapt and grow as versatile performers.
Overall, it has been a fantastic and highly productive start to the year. I have been extremely impressed by the students’ enthusiasm, resilience, and dedication, and I look forward to seeing their continued growth as we move towards our first Dance Showcase and competition season.
