Years 1–4 Excursion to the Sydney Opera House

What better way to spend a rainy Friday than immersed in the magic of live music at the iconic Sydney Opera House? On Friday 22 August, students from Years 1 to 4 had the incredible opportunity to attend a performance by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, featuring Prokofiev’s beloved musical tale Peter and the Wolf.

The experience was nothing short of captivating. For many students, it was their first time hearing a live orchestra, and they were amazed by how each instrument brought the story’s characters to life through sound. From the playful clarinet representing the cat to the bold horns portraying the wolf, the music sparked imaginations and deepened appreciation for orchestral storytelling.

As a delightful surprise, the orchestra treated the audience to an encore performance of Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King—a thrilling piece that had everyone on the edge of their seats!

Students in Year 1/2 were so inspired that they wrote their own reflections on the experience, sharing their thoughts and favourite moments from this unforgettable excursion.

“Today, we went to Peter and the Wolf at the Sydney Opera House. We travelled by bus. It was very comfy and fun. It was very relaxing because there were so many seats! At the Opera House we sat in the second row. We filled up our entire row!”

All students were quite inspired by the experience:

“I liked the music” (Abdulatif);

“I liked the music at the end of the concert” (Melody);

“My favourite instrument was the French horn, the wolf” (Malakai).

 “I liked the music at the end because it was spooky and reminded me of Halloween” (Anaisha).

“I liked every single part” (Finn).

The storyteller was very, very funny and entertaining.

Thank you, Mrs Sherer, for organising our exciting excursion. Can we PLEASE go on another excursion?
