Student Voices Heard at NSW Parliament

On Monday 20 October, two of our talented Year 9 students, Adele and Danielle, had the incredible opportunity to participate in the Bear Pit Public Speaking Competition at NSW Parliament House, accompanied by Ms Walker.

Held in the prestigious Legislative Assembly Chamber, the event invited students to speak on a range of pre-selected topics — a rare chance to experience the workings of government firsthand while developing their public speaking skills.

Adele explored the topic “Social Media: bringing us closer or pushing us apart?”, offering thoughtful insights into the digital age’s impact on relationships. Danielle tackled the question “Should 16-year-olds be given the right to vote in Australia?”, delivering a compelling and confident speech that earned her 3rd place in the competition!

Beyond the speeches, the event allowed students to meet local leaders, observe parliamentary processes, and engage with peers from other schools — all while representing the College with pride.

We are incredibly proud of Adele and Danielle for their courage, preparation, and professionalism. Their participation reflects the strength of student voice and leadership within our community.

Bravo, Adele and Danielle!
