Reflecting on Term 2 2025
As you read through our reflections on Term 2, you will see what a busy term this has been.
Performing Arts and Secondary parent / teacher / student conferences were held during the term. The Junior School academic interviews will take place at the beginning of Term 3. These opportunities for parents and carers to meet academic and performing arts teachers are invaluable and it has been pleasing to see many parents take up this opportunity.
Performing Arts reports and some academic reports have been distributed, with the balance to follow shortly. I hope Years 7 & 8 parents have seen the value in the on-time reporting being trialled this year, with the possibility of this being extended to other years in the future.
Year 10 have had the benefit of subject talks from subject specific teachers informing them of the content and expectations prior to choosing their HSC subjects as they prepare to move into Year 11 in 2026.
Year 12 Biology and Year 10 Science students participated in the Amgen Biotechnology Experience, a hands-on molecular biology program in partnership with the University of Sydney.
In this publication you will read about the many performances that have been held over the past weeks. These include: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Lord of the Flies, Alice in Wonderland, Chicago, Food Glorious Food, Fire and Panic at the Disco.
I congratulate our students and staff on these outstanding performances—some of the senior performances being at the pre-professional level. Regardless of whether a child has the lead role or is an ensemble member, research shows that performers are four times more likely to be recognised for their academic achievements compared to their non-performer peers.
The Midsummer Night’s Dream cast and crew tour to Wagga next week. I wish them every success as they learn the skills of touring and keeping each performance as fresh as the one before.
Our students have been involved in multiple eisteddfods, tennis tournaments, excursions, carnivals, writer’s festival, assessments, and featured artist auditions, just to name a few activities during the term.
The Masquerade Gala Dinner organised by the P & F and held on May 24 at Doltone House was a highlight of the term. Over 160 parents and friends were entertained by our students and generously put their hands up to bid on the Live Auction run by Greg Friend, and also bid on the Silent Auction items. With our gratitude to some very generous donors, $123,000 was raised toward Stage 3 of the canteen refurbishment.
THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to making this evening a success.
I’m looking forward to Term 3, which will include Coppelia, the Art and Design Show, HSC Trials and Practical examinations, and our High Performance Season.
Best wishes to our community as we enter the winter break,
Maxine Kohler
