Jazz, Disco, FIRE! A Spectacular Term of Music
It has been an incredibly busy and rewarding term for the students in the Music Stream.
Students have worked hard throughout the term, preparing for our end-of-term showcases. The Junior Music Stream dazzled us with their fiery themed performance, “FIRE,” while the Senior students turned up the glitter and groove with a celebration of all things “DISCO.” Both evenings were nothing short of spectacular, showcasing every student’s creativity, commitment, and ever-developing talents across a diverse range of instruments and styles.
Earlier in the term, our jazz students had the extraordinary opportunity to visit the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. They observed a live big band rehearsal, workshopped with the brilliant Australian jazz composer Jess Green, and experienced an inspiring session with the legendary Kevin Hunt. Kevin generously explored the stunning Stewart Grand Piano with the students—and even invited them to play!
Music Stream students also collaborated with other creative departments at the College. Daniel, Sara, Toby, and Madison-Rose composed and performed the live score for the Acting Stream’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and will be joining the cast on tour to Wagga Wagga during the holidays.
We were also proud to support the Musical Theatre Stream in their dynamic production of Chicago. Daniel, Toby, Sara, Emir, and Bradley performed alongside professional musicians to bring the show’s iconic score to life—an incredible achievement!
As the term comes to a close, I’d like to wish all students and their families a restful and well-deserved break. My heartfelt thanks go to the exceptional Music staff—Damien Macchi, Elizabeth Cooper, Marie Le Brun, Ben Kiehne, and Gabby Bermingham—whose tireless dedication and support make everything we do possible. I am deeply grateful for all you do for our students and for me.
